About Alex
Alex James Atkinson graduated from The University of Manchester in 2002 with a degree in English and History. During his time at University Alex was the first Station Manager of Student Radio Station Fuse FM and was a regular contributor to the award-winning Student Direct.
Starting his professional broadcasting career at Wish FM in Wigan, Alex progressed from the Evening Show to Mid-Mornings followed by six months presenting the station’s Breakfast Show. During his time at Wish FM Alex interviewed a number of chart topping artists and bands including Kelly Clarkson, Sugababes and KT Tunstall.
March 2006 saw Alex recruited as part of the on-air line-up for the launch of XFM Manchester. During his time at the station he anchored a number of unique shows, including post-gig specials for Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys, and met and interviewed some of his all time favourite bands including Ash and My Chemical Romance.
Since May 2007 Alex has continued to develop his broadcasting skills and experience adding numerous commercial radio stations to his portfolio, including Galaxy Birmingham, The One Network’s Ram FM, Marcher Sound and Buzz FM and 96.2 The Revolution.
November 2007 added the schedules at Century Radio to his achievements, broadcasting to the biggest UK commercial radio audience outside London.
In addition to his passion for radio Alex frequently puts pen to paper and has been published in a number of magazines and newspapers. He has interviewed a variety of high profile figures, ranging from Hollywood Actress Michelle Williams and Disney Pixar maestro Jon Lasseter, through to radio legend Mark Goodier and even an international Porn Star!
Alex is currently the station voice for Burn FM Student Radio in Birmingham and is the voice of numerous promotions on Sony Award Winning digital station Gaydar Radio. He has also appeared on television’s Channel M Breakfast show as a topical commentator and regularly presents careers seminars and lectures at The University of Manchester.
Alex James was featured as the ‘One To Watch’ in radio industry magazine Xtrax in Spring 2007.
